KHON Features Emeritus College


The Emeritus College started late in the 1970’s as part of the Office Community Service and Special programs. Most of the funds for the program was from a special appropriations to the Community Colleges through the University of Hawaii.

In 1980 Honolulu Community College through the late Mabel McConnell, Kokua Council for Senior Citizens of Hawaii Education Fund and Dr. John Corboy, the College was invited to establish a SeniorNet site at the College. Dr. Corboy provided funds to purchase computers.

After many years associated with SeniorNet, the College decided to offer all its computer classes through the Emeritus College.

The Emeritus College at Honolulu Community College offers non-credit classes and provides the facilities, equipment and maintenance services for the program. The Emeritus College specializes in computer workshops for senior citizens and offers many courses to help seniors in this new technological era. The Emeritus College has also partnered with Microsoft to deliver a fun series of hands-on workshops called the “MY PC Series”.
