Design and print your own 3D model? How cool is that? This course introduces the processes necessary to print physical 3D models from Revit Architecture digital files. You will have practical experience exporting the .STL format files within Autodesk Revit Architecture 2017, checking for and correcting the file for errors, setting up the 3D printer to receive the file, and printing the 3D model. Bring a 4GB flash drive to back up your work.
You must have a minimum of 27 hours experience using the Revit Architecture software prior to taking this course. You should be experienced enough to create and modify building levels, modify and place walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, doors, windows and components, modify visibility and view settings, and use the Modify toolset in Revit as a minimum level of competency. Knowledge of a recent Windows operating system is required for this course. A good prerequisite is taking Revit Architecture 2017 Essentials.
In this hands-on course participants will each build a high performance Delta 3D printer. These printers sell for thousands, but for hundreds of dollars participants can order a kit online and meet in this tech hobby class to assemble it themselves with instructor Hayden Huntly. A laptop PC or Mac is required to bring to class with you. The materials cost for the course is $500 and the required materials must be purchased a month in advance to allow adequate time for them to arrive. Topics covered will include: Building Delta printer mechanicals, wiring the electronics, connecting the 32-bit controller to your laptop, calibrating, using free tools for printer control, CAD design, and slicing to make your own creations.
