131 Orientation

In this orientation session participants will learn how the PACE Program works and the requirements for converting PACE workshops to credit. The first assignment is explained and when textbooks are available to borrow, participants can pick them up at the orientation.

This workshop covers the milestones of physical development in infancy. You will also learn about health practices and behaviors that support healthy prenatal development. Outcome: Describe young children’s developmental characteristics and needs in the domain of physical development.

This workshop covers building infants’ cognitive abilities and health practices that support normal brain development during pregnancy. Outcome: Describe infant’s developmental characteristics and needs in the area of cognitive development.

The development of trust, attachment, and temperament during infancy are covered in this workshop. Outcome: Describe the infant's developmental characteristics and needs in the domain of social and emotional development.

At this capstone workshop you participate in an overview of the unit, share information about the infant you observed, turn in your assignment, and take the knowledge assessment. Outcome: Apply child development knowledge to guide practice.

The milestones of toddler development are surveyed in this workshop. Also, participants explore how to support and enhance the large and small motor development of toddlers. Outcomes: Describe the toddler child's developmental characteristics and needs in the domains of physical development.

In this workshop you will learn about the characteristic ways that toddlers explore and make sense of the world. Outcome: Describe the toddler’s developmental characteristics and needs in the area of cognitive development.

This workshop explores the struggle for autonomy, attachment to important people in the child’s life, and the development of self-concept. Outcome: Describe the toddler's developmental characteristics and needs in the domain of social and emotional development.

By this stage of development a child begins to apply logical thought to everyday problems. You learn why it is still important to ensure that children have the opportunity to try out their ideas through direct manipulation of real objects. Outcome: Describe the school-age child's developmental characteristics and needs in the domains of cognitive development.

131 School-Age Social-Emotional Development

At this workshop participants explore the characteristics of the social and emotional development of the school-age (ages 5 to 8 yrs.) child and learn about some of the ways adults can lend support to the child’s drive to master new things. Outcome: Describe the school-age child's developmental characteristics and needs in the domains of social-emotional development.
